March Madness

As I discussed this weekend, March Madness is a rather exciting event every year. (Really goes without saying, but I am saying it any way.) While I reiterate my disappointment with the Raiders not making the cut this year, I am excited that Michigan made it in as a 10 seed.  During the CBS bracket-reveal coverage they had live shots of the Michigan faithful packed into Crisler Arena for the announcement of the bracket.  It was very cool to see the enthusiasm and excitement of the fans shown across the country.  Did you hear the GO BLUE!! cheers during Coach Beilien's TV interview?
So Michigan is playing #7 seeded Clemson, whom I know absolutely nothing about except that they are coached by the University of Dayton's former coach Oliver Purnell.  I think it is safe to say we win this game....because I am bias.
This particular bias actually plays a significant role in my enjoyment of tournament and the filling out of my bracket.  Seeing as I don't really watch a wide breadth of college games throughout the year.  (I leave that craziness to my brother.), most of picks are based upon teams that I have seen or am impressed by, teams that Michigan or Wright State have beat or lost to, preference for an upset victory, hatred due to too much media love, etc.  I have posted my bracket for this year below.  Depsite the fact that you can fill out multiple brackets for most of these tournament challenges, I always only fill out and use one...because there really is only one perfect bracket.
Taking a closer look at some of my picks...you can see I have a distinctly Big Ten and Horzion League bias.  In the first round I believe I pick every one of the teams representing these two conferences (except for Wisconsin), even Butler and Cleveland St (a huge underdog) who are lower seeds from a small conference.  I typically over value my school, Michigan, by having them reach the Sweet 16 by pulling a big win off against Oklahoma.  I also show some love for the local team, Dayton...just because they are from Dayton.  Also noteworthy is despite my protestations in my previous blog entry about how I hate Butler and OSU...I have them both winning their first round games. (Though my generosity is not extended into the second round.)  Ultimately my Final Four is comprised of teams, three of which I have not watched a single second, or highlight of all year...Pittsburgh, North Carolina, and Michigan State along with UConn whom I watched when Michigan nearly beat them earlier this year.  This is kinda in opposition to my general hatred of UConn and UNC, but as you notice I don't have either of those schools winning it all.

  1. how could you not watch a second of michigan state with them playing in the big ten? they got dismantled by OSU last week, theres no way they're a final four team. theres also no way you never saw highlights of UNC this year. michigan over clemson is actually a pretty good call though. clemson loves starting the year like 17-0 and then being bad the rest of the year.
