Celebrating National Chemistry Week: Part 1 of 5

If you didn't know, this week (October 21-October 27) is National Chemistry Week as sponsored by the American Chemical Society. This week has extra special significance for us chemists because....well if you are familiar with Avagadro's Number (the number of atoms, molecules, or particles in one mole of a substance is 6.02 x 10^23), would seem obvious that Chemistry Week would include October 23 (10/23). This years theme is The Many Faces of Chemistry.

So to help spread the coolness that is chemistry I am doing my part by sharing some of the good links, sites, videos etc in the area of chemistry:

--First off....Wikapedia entry for chemistry

--2007 Nobel Prize for Chemistry went to Gerhard Ertl of the Max Planck Institute in Germany for his work in surface chemistry...I have actually never heard of him...but it must be pretty important research...check out the public information provided on the website for a general discussion of his important work.

--Heck, check out the web pages for Wright State's and Michigan's Chemistry Depts....get a feel for what goes on in all the research labs around me...

TOMORROW...the wonderful world of chemistry videos!!!
